Frank Burlison is far from being an idiot or uninformed about college hoops. He hit the nail on the head in what he says about Chang. He is being realistic about a guy who hasn't played competitive basketball in two years, and never played at the DI level. Yes, he may surprise, and our coaching staff are the folks I trust to get the best out of him. But it would be wrong to expect more than this kid can deliver right away. We need to let him develop, become used to the speed of the game, and learn the Monson way to play.
Remember that quality post players willing to commit to a mid-major are fairly rare, any year. One of the best thing Chang has going for him right now is the level of competition he will face every day in practice. Starting next week, he will face a parade of BCS type posts and forwards with pretty solid credentials. By time the BW rolls around, we will probably see a more confident and refined player to face a conference that is getting better, but not there yet.
On the issue of potential injuries, I do disagree with Frank when he supposes that playing BCS teams creates additional injury risk. Remember, James Cotton was severely injured in an exhibition game against a pretty sad team from Mexico. He missed most of the pre-season that year.

: I believe Lin Chang will be very effective
: for
: us this year if Coach Monson uses him in the
: right way. Lin is the typical Euro who has
: a nice mid-range jumpshot and could take
: defenders off the dribble to the hole. We
: need to use Lin like the lakers use Paul
: Gasol. His jumpshots should be coming from
: the "pinch" post. Also let him
: take defenders off the dribble trying to
: draw fouls. I really like this kid. I
: disagree with what Burlison is saying.
: Burlison is a idiot who doesn't know

: covering LB Basketball?
