we finally started playing ball our last game of the season vs. UOP when we instituted the press. too bad only 3 or 4 minutes were left!
I think Fleming could end up starting in non conference for the first 5-7 minutes to see if he can be effective that night. If not he'll sit. Challenge to Mr. Fleming to be effective as he can be from the get go.
I think he can be solid on defense, if he gets aggressive and attempts to own the paint, carve out space and not be afraid to push people around when he can, and go aggressively after shot blocks. Being passive will do him no good.
Phelps must have been hobbled as a freshman, he looked good at times but lacked some mobility. It was very evident at the open scrimmage that he is very athletic and while he doesn't seem particularly explosive and quick, he is a bull for the ball and has good enough offensive moves to create his shot.
Our most talented lineup is shaping up to be:
F-TJ
F-Phelps
Wing- LA
SG-Gilling
PG-Ware
smallish but dangerous. we do have enough guys to sub in and out so that if we press more these guys won't be burned out by seasons end. That would be an entertaining lineup to watch and other than Gilling would be together for 2 more years after this one.
