I meet this kid and he seems like a great kid. Remember he is a kid that was offered a scholarship early to a high D1 school. he may or may not be able to play at that level but it is tough for a kid with all the peer pressure of thinking you are going to a big school and now facing the idea of going to a mid major. How would you feel being offered a job that pays 100K & it getting pulled from you?

: I agree that NO ONE should ever feel
: "comfortable" with their position.
: Competition is always a good thing (see
: Pete Carroll). If DM and staff can convince
: KW to come to the Beach we would be that
: much better off and VERY deep. Based on the
: comments I heard and articles I've read on
: him, he's potentially the classic kid that
: thinks he should be going, playing and
: starting at a higher level than he's
: probably suited for. In any event, I trust
: DM to make the right call!

: Bill wrote"We really don't need a PG in
: this recruiting class. We have Ware and
: Wodard who are sophs, plus a freshmen walk
: on. Anderson makes a pretty good pg
: too."
:
: I would disagree, Monson wants a PG who can
: back up Ware and eventually start, ideally
: you get a kid who backs up Ware for two
: seasons and then takes over as a Junior. If
: we can get KW, he is a stud and combined
: with the rest of that class he would push
: the core for playing time, give us
: incredible depth, and a great class going
: forward. Signing talented players sometimes
: means not everyone is going to be happy with
: playing time, but it still makes sense to
: sign the best you can and let them fight it
: out.

: Agree 100%. The guy seems a bit flakey and
: would likely not get that much playing time
: until after Casper Ware graduates. If he
: truly wants to play a lot, he will find
: another school where the competition for
: point guard is not as strong.
:
: I think our current depth, especially with
: the verbals for next year, is really pretty
: nice. I would much rather see the
: recruiting efforts directed at guys who can
: fill the middle.

: I agree with you. The links raise what I
: perceive to be some true concerns about his
: focus and work ethic. Sure, he IS young, but
: that combined with his decommitting with
: UCLA definitely turns on the flashing yellow
: lights in my mind where this young man is
: concerned.
:

: This makes perfect sense if you think about
: it
: on several levels.
:
: 1. He de-committed from UCLA which is a top
: 10-20 program. If he was good enough to
: land a ride to the 'Ruins any other major D1
: school with a PG need would be highly
: interested.
:
: 2. If he has a visit to Penn scheduled (Ivy
: League) than he's obviously NOT thinking
: about any sort of hoop career once college
: is over, NO one is going to argue that a
: degree from an Ivy league school is worth
: LESS than a degree from The Beach.
:
: 3. We already have a PG (Ware) that he'd
: have to beat out for PT. Ware would be a 2
: yr starter (and a Junior) when Wilson would
: be a Fr. Ware would beat him out, which
: would leave Wilson as a backup for 1-2
: years? Why do that when another school in a
: major conference has an immediate need?
:
: Let him go and find his happiness, I think
: our efforts are better spent on other
: prospects

: Talked to Frank B. at the scrimmage last
: Saturday and he said that KW was visiting
: Marquette that weekend and that KW had
: visits scheduled to Baylor and Penn (he is a
: good student).
:
: He also said that he thought if any of the
: three offered that KW would take it as KW
: thinks we are beneath him.
