My concern here is that we not become another LA State. We should take no comfort in being just okay in several of our programs, eg. golf. FWIW....LA State had a strong baseball program in the early 70s too. Larry Cochell was their coach....a big timer. I remember a game in the D-8 finals watching Anthony Davis (who arrived in his vette just before game time...hitting a home run for USC against LA State. USC was always loaded then....there were just a hand full of good college baseball programs in those days...largely because most major league teams had 2-3 times as many minor league teams as they do today. We desperately need funding....or we will follow LA State. They were the Diablos then....and highly regarded athletically. Things change and there's little question in my mind that the only thing we can do to prevent our downslide (short of some huge corporate or donor relationship)is to obtain student funding. There has never been a better time.....kids are lined up for miles to come to LB...and those that make it would thank us 10-20 years out for bolstering the reputation of and interest in their University.
