The NCAA and NBA really screwed this one up. The NBA put in the 'one and done' rule requested by the NCAA which was demended by the BCS schools so they had a chance to use highly skilled players to keep the NCAA tournament sewed up as their monopoly every year. The problems you describe ensuded and we have a mess with coaches facing sanctions, if the NCAA decides to pursue them.
If a young man has the ability to play out of high school, he should go and play in the NBA. Using Sebastian Telfair as an example, some players do not have the need or temperment to attend a college and get a degree. How much is a college degree going to help Kobe Bryant in his later life if he take scare of his early earnings very well?

: Amid all of the pre-season hype of a usually
: wrong prediction "rag," is an
: article concerning the credibility crisis
: that is being faced by college MBB. In
: short, the article begs the NCAA to make an
: example of at least one major program that
: has been known to cheat in recruiting. USC,
: and AJ Mayo are lead examples of what is
: wrong in college basketball. Questions are
: also raised about Rick Pitino who has moved
: his sordid show to Kentucky, while leaving a
: second school (Memphis) with egg on its
: face.
:
: One of the most cogent points is made by
: Seth Greenberg in his discussion of the
: "one and done" type players that
: are consuming way too many resources of head
: coaches and those who seek a fleeting shot
: at the big bucks in the NCAAT. The NBA, in
: an attempt to help colleges, made it even
: worse. By requiring draftees (except
: foreign players) to have at least one year
: of college, they created a situation where
: families, agents and assorted "hangers
: on" shop for the best deal for the high
: quality player. Its usually understood that
: it is a one year deal before the agent gets
: signed for real and the kid declares for the
: draft. Like baseball, such unique players
: should be drafted out of high school without
: making a farce of attending college.
: I highly recommend reading this article.
: don't buy the mag, but sit down at
: Starbuck's inside a Barnes and Noble and
: read it.
