Exactly!! The players are not dumb. They know that they are going into these games as underdogs with very low expectations; and losing to teams like Kentucky or Duke on their home floors would not, I believe, affect the way that our team would approach a UCSB or a CSF later in the year. A loss to Kentucky is a far more valuable element to the overall program than a win over Occidental or CSUDH.
We are actually seeing the upgrading of the MBB program that we expected when Monson was hired; far better recruits, better schedule and higher quality play. Most of us thought it would take a few years to recover from a hole that was dug over a 10 years period, but now the fun is beginning.

: Exactly.

: There's always risk involved if you shoot
: for the stars. If we are blown out of every
: one of those games, the risk is that the
: confidence of the players will be in the
: dumpster. But, I'm sure the coaches know
: that and will do their best to mitigate it.
: If the players can keep their mindset
: steeped in reality, or if they can actually
: win a couple of those games, then it can
: only help. Remember, all of those games
: will give them valuable experience playing

: While a loss is a loss, playing Duke, Texas,
: and Kentucky on TV helps in a couple ways.
: One is that, when recruiting, we can tell
: recruits we are planning to play against the
: top teams in the country, where they can
: showcase their talents on a National scale.
: The second is, of course the possibility
: that we win a game or two. While unlikely,
: we have a talented squad who showed last
: season they can play well in tough venues.
: Further, the media generally likes Monson
: and the exposure on National TV means more
: recruits get a chance to find out about us.
: As noted above it helps pay the bills too.
: And lastly, if we win the BW and dance in
: March the kids are less likely to be
: overawed because they are playing a tough
: team in a bright spotlight.
