"Gotta remember, if you don't play em, you can't beat em. This kind of schedule says more about the direction of the program and the intent of the coaching staff to reach for the unexpected."
Exactly.
There's always risk involved if you shoot for the stars. If we are blown out of every one of those games, the risk is that the confidence of the players will be in the dumpster. But, I'm sure the coaches know that and will do their best to mitigate it. If the players can keep their mindset steeped in reality, or if they can actually win a couple of those games, then it can only help. Remember, all of those games will give them valuable experience playing top competition on the road. If they can win conference and qualify for the NCAA tournament, none of those games will be at home. The experience of playing that kind of competition in a hostile environment will be invaluable.
What are those old sayings?
"What doesn't destroy you, makes you stronger."
and...
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

: We'd probably have to win 1-2 of the games

: While a loss is a loss, playing Duke, Texas,
: and Kentucky on TV helps in a couple ways.
: One is that, when recruiting, we can tell
: recruits we are planning to play against the
: top teams in the country, where they can
: showcase their talents on a National scale.
: The second is, of course the possibility
: that we win a game or two. While unlikely,
: we have a talented squad who showed last
: season they can play well in tough venues.
: Further, the media generally likes Monson
: and the exposure on National TV means more
: recruits get a chance to find out about us.
: As noted above it helps pay the bills too.
: And lastly, if we win the BW and dance in
: March the kids are less likely to be
: overawed because they are playing a tough
: team in a bright spotlight.
