F Hat athletics
- a) # 1 sport publically is baseball... give our baseball time unlimited support and see where we are. But we start with men's hoops, then go baseball/wvb and move on from there
thus our baseball team has been playing with a shorter budget ... scholarship budget ... but I am told this part is being addressed.
However, no matter what happens under # a, then you have to deal with the following:
- b) even if our athletic dept opted to break the bank for baseball rather than hoops and other sports, the NCAA calculation for allowable scholarship budget is smaller at LB. They use an index that factors in the cost of living on campus housing. LB campus housing has been so cheap that it has held back the NCAA index.
So CSF can give up to $400 per kid per month more.... multiple that x 11.7 and CSF has had $50K per year money scholarship money to spread around the roster in recruiting. That is a huge advantage.

: Maybe I missed the conversation, but I'm
: curious how the budget issues are completely
: different. I'm not trying to raise your
: dander, it's a serious question.
:
: And ralph, speaking of raising someone's
: dander, why do you immediately assume that
: I'm backing Fullerton? There's no need to
: resort to name calling. I'm a Long Beach
: State alum with many concerns about the
: CURRENT status of the DIRTBAG program.
: Claiming Major-Leaguers when discussing the
: prestige of your program is fine; but I'm
: interested in the CURRENT success of the
: Long Beach State baseball team, not what a
: small number of former players are doing
: AFTER they left school.
:
: I think we all know the Commissioner's Cup
: is a load of hoo-ey. Like Fullerton, Long
: Beach is known nationally for it's baseball
: program. And the folks in the Athletics
: Department are gouging their season-ticket
: holders as if it's still a top-notch
: program. But I can't say I heard much about
: the Dirtbags from the national media at all
: this season.

: Uh, budget issues are completely different.
:
: --Previous Message--
: not only that... same budget, same csu
: system
: two very different programs. Yeah, why
: doesn't your program produce high profile
: and as many major leaguers as ours? We get
: more national publicity than you do if you
: were to win the national championship every
: year. How does it feel to duke it out for
: the cellar of the commish cup with Cal
: Riverside every year?
:
: You guys are a flea on the ass of LBS.

: Well, Fullerton is a one-trick pony school
: that probably puts all its eggs into one
: basket. We're trying to stretch our
: resources into multiple sports. This becomes
: quite obvious when you look at where the two
: schools are ranked in the Commish Cup
: standings.

: This was seen in today's Orange County
: Register: "The 2009 Cal State Fullerton
: baseball team tied a school record by
: producing seven individuals earning
: All-American honors at season's end."
:
: And how many All-Americans did the Dirtbags
: have this season?
:
: Same school system (CSU). Same budget
: issues. Two VERY different baseball
: programs...
