the more big name opponents we schedule, the chance of a major upset gets increased. on paper, we could get routed at Duke, Texas, and Kentucky, probably vs. two of the Anaheim Classic opponents, and possibly at Notre Dame (not sure what sort of team they will field this year). Green Bay is supposedly as good as last year, and they creamed us here last year.
but what if we don't get routed, actually are competitive, and win a couple of these? remember what we did vs. very tough BYU and Wisconsin on the road.
We have a very experienced team returning, other than the center position we have experienced starters returning, and very good depth. Only ? is center, which probably again will be by committee. I think the team will be ready to go from day one and could upset non conference foes early on whose teams haven't come together yet.
I see big payoffs from a schedule like this, not just in dollars but future returns. The only negative would be if we get blown out too much, it could hurt the team pyschologically, but Monson and staff seem to be pretty talented at keeping the team pysche in line.
I'm sure we are on the radar of a lot of local mid major talent who aren't going to get recruited by big name schools but wouldn't mind any exposure they can get. and we can offer it to them.
adding Kentucky, if true, turns this into an almost unbelievable schedule.
